The Proposal
Flying the Flag for You Sung by Scooch / Lyrics by Tarry, Spencer, Schjolin, Hill
Ladies and gentlemen, your exits are here, here and here
To fasten your seatbelt, insert the fitting
To use the life-vest slip it over your head
Pull firmly on the cord and blow into the mouthpiece
Weâre flying the flag all over the world
Flying the flag for you
The Eurovision roller-coaster had well and truly arrived and with only a couple of days to go before the main event, the town was filling up with all the audience and the media for the showdown. They arrived from all over Europe, a few came from the countries that border the Mediterranean and some came (quite surprisingly) from Australia.
Apparently the contest is quite popular in the Antipodes and the residents of Melbourne were the first fans to hold Euro-parties to celebrate the event. I suppose that says something about the residents of that beautiful town. This was demonstrated during the sixtieth contest in Austria when a guest entry was included from Australia and he proved very popular. He didnât win â the song wasnât too bad and he was certainly good to look at â but had he won, then the location for the next contest, the sixty-first, would have proved to be a problem. It had already been agreed that had the Aussies taken the glitter ball then they would have chosen a location in Europe for the event to take place.
It might have been London or Barcelona or Paris. However, it didnât happen and there had been talk in the Australian press that they might have chosen a central location and forgotten about any allegiance they might have had to the UK. That would have been interesting and opened wider debates about identity, the monarchy, etc.
All over Bostrovia City, the Eurovision Song Contest was apparent on billboards and public transport, in offices and shops. Tourists came to a city that most had never been to and had never even considered visiting before but they were made to feel welcome. The citizens had been through the wars literally and were ready to settle along with the rest of Europe and start enjoying the benefits of being part of the bigger scene.
Perhaps if we just called ourselves European and our passports only reflected that very important fact then we might be stronger together, united and be in a more comfortable place to start building that Utopian dream?
The majority of the citizens of the new country werenât sure whether or not the new government, the new regime, was to be trusted. Theyâd been accustomed to corruption from the various ruling systems that had gone before and plans and ideas had never been very permanent. Many of the
